Before entering private practice, Mr. Niakan served as a U.S. Government Special Agent. That work was, in essence, an education in evidence: how it is created, how it is preserved, how it is misread, and how quickly a confident narrative falls apart when somebody checks the underlying record. Witness accounts are compared to what can be independently corroborated. By the time a matter reaches a hearing, the position being argued has already survived a harder examination than opposing counsel is likely to give it.

Mr. Niakan is known for meticulous preparation and a composed courtroom presence, and focuses heavily on family law, protective orders and complex civil litigation. He represents clients in both English and Persian (Farsi) — an increasingly practical matter in the Maryland and D.C. corridor, where a mistranslated sentence in a protective order hearing can carry consequences for years.
